(Recommended Article) FOLLOWING YOUR FEARS has seen BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW

...Beyond the Black Rainbow most certainly has a familiar aura about it. Those that are David Cronenberg fan boys such as I am, and worship at the altar of such films as Scanners, The Fly, and Videodrome will be in sci-fi/horror heaven, or hell as it were, for its 109 minute psychedelic journey. While Cronenberg’s early output seems to be a huge inspiration for Cosmatos, there are a couple other films that came to mind numerous times during the film. Altered States, starring William Hurt, and my personal favorite film, Alejandro Jodorowsky’s, The Holy Mountain, are most definitely in Cosmatos’ film collection. BTBR, however, while wearing its influences on its sleeves, has a wholly original vision which is achieved through a mind-bending visual style that left me in a euphoric trance...

Clive Barker is the possessor of one of horror’s most imaginative and limitless minds. His sadistic perception of terror has sent chills down the spines of readers for decades, and his works of fiction refuse to depart the memory. Monumental, or even profound, would be a fitting moniker for the legend, who initially garnered a cult following with his absolutely terrifying series, Books of Blood. To date six installments have been released, and in honor of a living legend, I’ll be covering all half dozen over the next month or so. Today, we obviously begin with the first chapter of this paralyzing series: Books of Blood: Volume One....

Recommended Double Feature: THE HUNCHBACK OF THE MORGUE and PHANTASM

Two crazy horror films, two horror films that are like kids playing with every toy in the box. They're not just scary, they're also a lot of fun and when you watch them you get the feeling they were made by 'one of us'.

As per IMDB the plot of THE HUNCHBACK OF THE MORGUE "Paul Naschy plays a hunchback with below average intelligence who works at the morgue. He is in love with a sickly girl who happens to be the only person who is kind to him. Each day he brings her flowers until the day she dies...”

And here is the trailer...

Thoughts: Wow. Just wow. What an insane movie. All the Quasimodo and mad scientist tropes mixed in with flying rats and hot hunchback sex. Then just when you think it can't get wilder they bring the Necronomicon into the thing.

As per IMDB the plot of PHANTASM “A young boy and his friends face off against a mysterious grave robber known only as the Tall Man, who keeps a mysterious arsenal of terrible weapons with him.”

Here is the trailer...

Thoughts: This is it. My favorite horror movie. I always watch it on my birthday and any other days when I feel like it. The plot seems so simple at first glance- what is going on at the old cemetery? But then the pseudo-Jawas, silver spheres and where the Hell did that come from references to the novel DUNE. Can a kid, his older brother and a badass ice cream man save the world from an alien gender swapping zombie slave trader? How could I not love this movie?

This scene from this episode of KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER rocked 6 year old Al Bruno III's world!

When I was just a lad, long before I discovered DOCTOR WHO, this show, this one season wonder made me into the horror geek I am today.

And this episode The Spanish Moss Murders stuck in my head for years after KOLCHAK: THE NIGHT STALKER had been canceled in favor of more boring shows.

And here is the electrifying ending...
